PCI Compliance
The petroleum/c-store industry along with many others businesses and vendors are required to meet the July 1, 2010 compliance deadline. This pertains to the ever-evolving PCI (Payment Card Industry) data security standards and PIN entry devices. Credit card and bank dominated committees mandated the standard for credit card use in the nation. If companies do not comply, they will not be able to process online payments. Businesses will also have to support Triple Data Encryption Standards (TDES) encryption of the Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) entered by consumers during debit card transactions at the pumps.
